"Викинг" Наименование автоматических орбитальных станций и спускаемых аппаратов для исследования Марса и программа их полетов. Станция "Викинг" состояла из орбитального блока, производившего исследования с орбиты вокруг Марса, и спускаемого аппарата, совершавшего мягкую посадку на поверхность планеты. "Викинг-1" и "Викинг-2" были запущены в 1975. Их спускаемые аппараты достигли Марса в 1976 и впервые на Землю передали фото- и телевизионные изображения его поверхности

But O.E. wicing and O.Fris. wizing are almost 300 years older, and probably derive from wic "village, camp" (temporary camps were a feature of the viking raids), related to L. vicus "village, habitation" (see villa).
